To expand our financial research capacity, we are looking for an experienced Database manager
You will support the work of our financial research working group, which is researching the investments, operations, financing and tax strategies of companies involved in international commodity chains (mining, agriculture, fisheries, forestry, energy) and other sectors with significant social and environmental impacts (garments, weapons, electricity, etc.). With this type of research, we expose how investors and banks are involved in social and environmental issues created by corporate actors, and we aim to understand which leverage options financiers have to influence corporate strategies in a more sustainable direction. In turn, such analyses inform how governments and civil society could stimulate the financial sector to become agents of change.
Your role would be to support the financial researchers with extracting, managing, analysing and visualising data on companies and financial institutions. Data will be extracted from databases such as Bloomberg, Refinitiv, IJGlobal, Pitchbook, Orbis and others, but also collected from company publications such as annual reports. Data management aims to store and retrieve data for all research projects systematically, to enable deeper and different analyses and to answer research questions as efficiently as possible. The data analysis aims to discover time patterns, correlations and key indicators. And data visualisation intends to present research outcomes attractively and understandably.
The outcomes of our financial research result will support NGOs, trade unions and governments to address the negative sustainability impacts of corporate actors and to stimulate adequate CSR policies and regulations which foster sustainable and inclusive development.
